Brazil's Brilliant Joao Gilberto, also known as O Amor, O Sorriso e u Flor, or The Love, The Smile, and the Flower, is the record that started it all for bossa nova in America. Released in 1961, this record introduced several Jobim classics to North American audiences. It was the combination of cool jazz and samba, the outstanding contributions of Antonio Carlos Jobim's songs and arrangements, and Gilberto's guitar style that make this one of the best bossa nova albums ever released. One Note Samba, Corcovado, O Pato, Outra Vez., and eight other classics. Although only half the record was written by Jobim, the other half has songs written by Gilberto, Dorival Caymmi and other brilliant writers, making this one a classic release.
